TMA Special Purpose Vehicle Monitoring Schemes (SA)

Transport operators of eligible special purpose vehicles (SPV), under a Class 1 permit issued by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), can operate on approved SPV networks in South Australia.

One of the conditions of access to the networks is telematics monitoring of SPVs.

SPV Monitoring schemes are made available by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), South Australia.

The SPV Monitoring schemes currently available to be enrolled in are:

  • SPV Monitoring Scheme – Up to 40-Tonne SPVs (SA)
  • SPV Monitoring Scheme – 6-Axle SPVs (SA)
(Note: Currently for 6-axle SPVs with a dolly only)
  • SPV Monitoring Scheme – 7-Axle SPVs (SA)
  • SPV Monitoring Scheme – 8-Axle SPVs (SA)
  • SPV Monitoring Scheme – 9-Axle SPVs (SA)

Refer to the DIT website for more information on South Australia’s SPV road networks.

To participate in a TMA SPV Monitoring Scheme (SA), transport operators must conform with the requirements specified within a Class 1 permit issued by the NHVR. Enrolment in the TMA application is one of these requirements.

Find out more details on the scheme by downloading a copy of the TMA Special Purpose Vehicle Monitoring Schemes (SA) document.

To offer services for an SPV Monitoring scheme, an application service provider (ASP) must be certified by TCA. TCA will also approve telematics devices used in the applicable scheme. The telematics device will generate position records and report them to TCA.

Unless required by law, TCA will destroy the telematics data it has received relating to the transport operator’s nominated vehicle(s) 12 months from its receipt of the data.

TCA will analyse data received through the TMA application, and make reports available via the Telematics Analytics Platform (TAP).

To enrol in TMA, please contact your certified service provider and let them know the scheme you’d like to be enrolled in. Your certified service provider will arrange for enrolment in the appropriate application on your behalf.

For more information on TMA enrolment, please see Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA).
