Traveller Information Exchange Pilot

TCA managed a pilot with Main Roads Western Australia to improve the safety and productivity of heavy-vehicle drivers operating in remote areas. The pilot enabled providers of telematics services to access accurate, reliable and real-time traveller information, and to transmit it to drivers operating in areas where communication is often unreliable.

By informing drivers of road congestion, closures and disruptions to their routes, such as flooding and road accidents, the pilot saw an improvement in the ability of heavy-vehicle drivers to plan their journeys and to respond to road events as they occured, without investing in new roadside infrastructure.

The pilot’s operational and technical infrastructure is highly flexible, and is available to all jurisdictions.
