About the scheme

The TMA Class 3 Truck and Dog Trailer Monitoring Scheme (NSW) is a scheme is made available by Transport for NSW, to enable monitoring of Class 3 20m Long 3-Axle Truck and 4-Axle Dog Trailers on the NSW road network.

The scheme associated with the Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) of the National Telematics Framework.

Eligibility

To participate in the scheme, transport operators must conform with the requirements specified within the National Class 3 20m Long 3-axle Truck and 4-axle Dog Trailer Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice. Enrolment in TMA is one of these requirements.

An applicable NHVR permit also provides conditions of travel for these vehicles that are required to be monitored on stated areas and routes in NSW.

Note: The applicable permit may require mass and vehicle configuration to be monitored using a Category B or C OBM system (i.e. a ‘Smart OBM system’).

How to enrol

Step 1 – Choose a certified Application Service Provider (ASP) and assist the ASP with any information it needs to complete the enrolment process.

Step 2 – Eligible vehicles must be fitted with a telematics device approved by TCA for use at Level 2 Assurance or higher. The telematics device used in this scheme will generate position records and report them to TCA.

Note: If the applicable permit requires mass and vehicle configuration to be monitored, TCA must also approve the Smart OBM systems used in the scheme. The Smart OBM system will generate mass and vehicle configuration records and report them to TCA.

Frequently asked questions

Your ASP will send data generated from enrolled vehicles to TCA. TCA will aggregate and de-identify the data. It will then make reporting available to the Transport for NSW via the Telematics Analytics Platform (TAP).

Unless required by law, TCA will destroy the telematics data it has received relating to the transport operator’s nominate vehicle(s) 12 months from its receipt of the data.
