Changes to telematics requirements in New South Wales – Are you ready?
19 March 2024
Are you a heavy vehicle driver or transport operator in New South Wales who uses telematics devices to unlock productivity or access benefits? There are some significant changes happening by 1 June that you need to be aware of:
Deadline: 1 June 2024
What’s changing?
- Eligible vehicles can choose to remain enrolled in the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), but may also need to enrol in the Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) if they have mass monitoring as a condition of access in their permits.
- Eligible vehicles need to transition from NSW’s interim On-Board Mass (OBM) to Smart OBM.
Who’s affected?
Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles operating under permit in NSW where mass monitoring is currently an agreed condition of road access.
What you need to do
- Speak with a TCA-certified TMA service provider to enrol in the relevant TMA scheme.
- If required by permit, have a TCA-approved Smart OBM system fitted to your vehicle.
- After enrolling in TMA, you may choose to cancel your IAP enrolment by contacting the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator at [email protected].
More information about the changes is available on the Transport for NSW website.
