NSW Mandatory Alcohol Interlock Program (MAIP)

Working with Transport for New South Wales, TCA’s Functional and Technical Specification for Alcohol Interlocks set the requirements for devices operating under the Mandatory Alcohol Interlock Program (MAIP). The Specification is informed by extensive research into the latest international standards.

By auditing approved providers and independently reviewing devices, TCA provides the necessary assurance that they comply with the MAIP’s Specification, legislation, policies and procedures.

This work builds on TCA’s market research on the latest alcohol interlocks to support the MAIP’s policy objectives.

Analysis was performed on a range of interlock devices, and how they were installed, serviced and supported by suppliers in Australia, North America, Africa and Europe.

The research – which paid special attention to global trends, user identification and real-time data reporting – informed the development of the Specification.
